REQUIEM FOR A MARRIAGE

Please

          Come join me by the river

We’ll sing songs of a hundred hands held

          We’ll weep for the thousand unresolved rows

                       We’ll laugh about the time you fell in the mud

And talk of the day you ended this for good

Then when that’s all over

            Maybe the stream of hate will stop

But until you sit beside me

                       We’re destined to do this
